The Friends of the Motorboat Museum were formed in 1992 to provide practical support to Basildon District Council, who own and run the Museum. The Friends provide advice and a source of funding and materials for exhibition purposes, including boats, engines and archive documents. They are also a direct research data base for Museum staff and fellow enthusiasts. Their involvement extends to staging events and activities which support the education programme for the Museum. They issue two newsletters a year and hold regular meetings.

The Friends of the Motorboat Museum are a membership organisation. Subscription is £10 per annum for an individual membership. Benefits of membership include:

1. Free access to talks, lectures and workshops on relevant topics, held within the Museum.
2. Free download of 'Friends' newsletters, twice yearly, from this website.
3. Free access to the Museum's extensive archive through direct visit or staff research.

PLEASE NOTE: all in person access to the archive must be pre-booked through the Museum Officer.
