SAFETY CELL

On display in the Museum is the first safety cell ever designed. Visitors can sit in it and get an idea of what it is like to sit in a powerboat cockpit.

The safety cell was originally designed by Chris Hodges. He was inspired after a good friend was killed during a high speed, powerboat crash. Powerboats travel at speeds in excess of 120mph and it is a dangerous sport.

Safety cell

The safety cell is now a mandatory requirement in powerboat racing. Over the years improvements have been made on the original design an safety cells are now as state of the art as the boats they sit in.
