Why visit the Museum? | Note for Key Stages 3 and 4 The Motorboat Museum houses a unique collection of sporting and leisure motorboats. The collection traces the history of motorboats from the early days of steam right up to the latest, state of the art, off shore powerboats. The Museum collection can be used with school groups of all ages but ties in particularly well to the science curriculum. Links can also be made to literacy, numeracy, art, ICT and history. Museum visits can provide children with a whole new learning experience. Contact with objects stimulates the imagination, challenges powers of observation and encourages the skills of deduction and analysis. The Museum experience also supports breadth and balance in the curriculum. On this website you will find all sorts of useful suggestions for how you can use the collection. You can download activity sheets for use both in the Museum and back in the classroom. Look out for the interactive games too which children can use to learn as they play. The activity sheets are coded for KS1 or KS2 and for where they should be used: QCA and NC Overview sheet download table Use the table below to download the Overview sheet for your Key Stage group. This gives details of how the activity sheets and support material you can download link to the QCAs and the National Curriculum. They're available in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat PDF format click on the appropriate icon in the table to download each file. Why visit the Museum | Note for Key Stages 3 and 4 The Museum is hoping to create some project based sessions for use with Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils over the course of the next year. At the moment teachers can bring pupils to visit the Museum and can access the Museum's library and archive for research. There are many aspects of the Museum collection which fit into the National Curriculum and could be used as the basis of project work. The Museum houses a collection which illustrates the development over time of both on shore and off shore racing boats. In addition the Museum houses a large collection of engines. Staff at the Museum will be happy to help you plan a visit. |
