The Motorboat Museum is closing down

We're sorry to announce that the Motorboat Museum is closing down as of 4th December 2009.

Due to large scale refurbishment of the building housing the Motorboat Museum, it is necessary to close the Motorboat Museum and repatriate the collection. It will still be possible in the short term to gain access to the extensive archive which focuses on sports and leisure powerboating.

Visits must be arranged by appointment. Please see our contact page for telephone and e-mail contacts.

The Motorboat Museum in Basildon

Throughout the twentieth century, some of the world's fastest and most revolutionary motorboats were designed and built in Britain. The best of these extraordinary machines have been preserved at the Museum.

The collection traced the history of these fascinating craft from the early days of steam launches right up to the late 20st Century offshore powerboats.

Visit the Wat Tyler Country Park web site for updates on the refurbishment of the Motorboat Museum building.
